You might be underinsured and not know it
Rebuild costs have climbed faster than almost any policy limit. CoverageIQ shows you the size of the gap.
Analyze my policyUnderinsurance is the quiet failure mode of homeowners coverage. Your home didn't change, but the cost of labor, lumber and materials did — and unless your limit was adjusted to match, you're carrying the difference yourself. Worse, many policies include a coinsurance clause that penalizes you at claim time if you're insured below a set percentage of replacement value, even for a partial loss.
What CoverageIQ checks for you
- Current estimated rebuild cost vs. your stated dwelling limit
- Coinsurance clauses that can reduce a partial-loss payout if you're under-limit
- Inflation-guard endorsements — present, absent, or not keeping pace
- Other-structures coverage for detached garages, fences and sheds
- Whether code-upgrade (ordinance or law) coverage is included for rebuilds to current code

Frequently asked questions
What happens if I'm underinsured and file a claim?
For a total loss, you only receive up to your dwelling limit — you pay the rest of the rebuild out of pocket. For a partial loss, a coinsurance penalty can reduce your payout proportionally if your limit falls below the required percentage of replacement cost, often 80%.
How much should my dwelling coverage be?
It should equal the full cost to rebuild your home at current local construction prices, including demolition and debris removal — not its market or tax-assessed value, which include land. Land doesn't burn down, so market value is the wrong benchmark.
What is a coinsurance clause?
It's a provision requiring you to insure your home to a minimum percentage of its replacement cost (commonly 80%). If you're below that threshold, the insurer reduces even partial-loss payments proportionally. CoverageIQ checks whether your policy has one and whether you're meeting it.
